Joanna Maitland-Hudson was born in Gloucester in 1977, the
youngest of three girls. She grew up and was educated in Surrey and at the
age of 18 moved to South-East London where she still lives today. “With a
background in interior design and specialist decorative affects, my
current practice is quite focused on statement pieces that will work well
within larger interior schemes. I paint in oils often using gold leaf
embellishment. My style is representational with photorealistic elements but also highly
decorative. I work across many genres from nature based subjects to portraiture
and equestrian art but I have a particular love for birds and Eastern art
and this influence can be seen in most of my paintings in terms of
composition, subject and the use of gold leaf. My studio is at The Gipsy
Hill Workshops in South-East London.”
